Belgium is seeking ‘dialogue with the US based on respect for its institutions and sovereignty’.
The statement also emphasised ‘the fundamental importance of the principle of the separation of powers in our democracy’.
‘Belgium attaches great importance to its relations with the United States of America. This partnership remains essential and we remain open to dialogue,’ said the foreign ministry. ‘But this dialogue must be based on respect for our institutions and our sovereignty.’
