“US Ambassador White is behaving like a Trump clone!”

Soenens is referring to the US ambassador to Belgium Bill White. White was summoned to the Belgian foreign affairs ministry yesterday following his comments about an investigation into three Jewish circumcisers in Antwerp. White speaks of ‘anti-Semitism’.  Belgian foreign minister Maxime Prévot calls these accusations ‘incorrect, offensive and unacceptable’.

‘Bill White became ambassador as the post is in the gift of  President Trump.  It was a reward’ says America-watcher and VRT News journalist Björn Soenens. He was a huge fundraiser for Trump and was rewarded for this with the position of ambassador to Belgium.

It’s not an insignificant job: ‘Belgium is important because of the European Union, we have the port of Antwerp, and we are an important trading partner for the United States’ says Soenens.

White has only been in Belgium for three months, but according to Soenens, he is already behaving like a Trump clone. ‘He likes to be in the press and offers himself up for interviews.’

However, Soenens considers the chance that this diplomatic incident will be further escalated to be rather small. ‘Both countries simply need each other,’ he concludes.
