Ghent jeweller’s raided: “A million euros’ worth of goods were stolen” (VIDEO)

Images have emerged of how a jewellery shop in Ghent was raided. According to the owner, up to one million euros’ worth of diamonds and gold was stolen. The police quickly arrived at the scene but were unable to catch the perpetrators. “They were well prepared and cleared out the entire display case,” says owner Ebru Sari. She is deeply shaken.

“The robbers broke in using a special tool. They were well prepared and smashed all the glass. They put everything into large white bags. A passer-by saw the robbery taking place and called the police,” says owner Ebru Sari. She runs the business and is also a well-known designer creating evening wear for celebrities.

“The officers arrived quickly and even had the robbers at gunpoint for a moment, but they still managed to escape in a car that was waiting for them,” explains Sari.

“Everything from the shop window and the counter is gone; it’s worth about a million euros.” The items stolen include diamonds and gold jewellery.

The incident took place last night. “We received a call and went to take a look. It was a mess. There was glass everywhere, and we weren’t allowed to go enter – the investigators were already at work. We still need to assess the full extent of the damage.”

“This is a ‘Win for Life’ for the robbers because they can easily have the gold melted down and sell it elsewhere,” concludes Sari. The East Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed the robbery took place. Investigations at the scene are still in full swing.
