Today, 12 October, the socialist trade union ACOD is holding a day of strike action in the public sector in protest against government policies.
Following Friday’s demonstrations, another trade union protest against government policy is on the agenda today. The socialist trade union is organising a strike in the public sector.
The strike is directed against the underfunding of public services and impending new budgetary cuts, such as a further attack on the cost-of-living index or a rise in VAT, explains Uwe Rochus, chair of the socialist public sector trade union ACOD.
Disruption is expected across various sectors, though the exact scale is not yet fully clear. The strike will be felt in places such as schools, local authorities, the postal service and public transport.
There will also be a significant impact on Flemish public broadcaster VRT. Radio and TV programming will be severely restricted. Many familiar programmes will be cancelled. On the radio, the focus will mainly be on music.
A decision on further industrial action will be taken on 9 November.
