We’ll still be enjoying maximum temperatures of up to 24 degrees for a while yet, but then the weather will take a turn for the worse: the RMI is forecasting rain, thunderstorms and wind from this evening onwards. Weather presenter Jacotte Brokken expects temperatures to drop: “It looks set to be a fair bit cooler on Thursday and Friday.”
Today, initially we’ll enjoy some lovely sunny spells in the south-east of the country, whilst there is more cloud cover in the west and north. In the late afternoon, cloud cover increases from the French border, bringing the first showers. A localised thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
This evening and overnight, it will initially rain everywhere. In the second half of the night, the weather will become drier with widespread clear spells moving in from the west.
Showers forming over the North Sea will quickly follow and reach the coast by the end of the night.
Code Yellow weather warning
In the provinces of Liège, Namur and Luxembourg, a Code Yellow weather warning is in force from 4 pm (until 6 pm tomorrow evening). Locally, 40 to 50 mm of rain may fall there.
Gusts of up to 60 km/h are possible inland. On the coast, Code Yellow is in force from this evening onwards, with gusts of up to 80 km/h.
15 degrees over the coming days
On Thursday morning, a rain front will start to move out of the country towards the east. However, showers are still possible from time to time. It will become noticeably colder, with maximum temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.
For Friday, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) forecasts a few sunny spells, initially in the east. Starting from the west, it will become cloudier fairly quickly, with some rain. A more active weather system may move across the country later in the day or in the evening. Maximum temperatures range between 10 and 16 degrees.
On Saturday, the rain will leave the country via the south-east and it will be partly cloudy with a few showers, particularly in the north and south of the country. Maximum temperatures will range between 11 and 16 degrees.
