From 1 January, Belgian postal services provider Bpost is increasing rates for sending letters and parcels. On average, a stamp will cost around 8 per cent more. Sending a small parcel from a post office will cost 40 cents more.
Bpost increases cost of sending parcels and letters from 1 January 2027
According to Bpost, the price rises are necessary because “Belgians’ postal habits continue to change rapidly.”
The postal operator bases its claim on the most recent study by the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT). In 2025, only 22 per cent of respondents said they still sent letters, compared with 41 per cent five years earlier.
“As volumes fall, the cost per letter rises for us. This is because the costs of staff and sorting centres remain the same,” says spokesperson Mathieu Goedefroy. “That is why the price increase is unavoidable.”
Here’s how the prices are changing
Standard postage stamp: 1.63 euros becomes 1.77 euros
Priority postage stamp: 2.52 euros becomes 2.73 euros
Registered post: 9.85 euros becomes 10.76 euros
Sending a parcel at the post office: 8.60 becomes 9 euros
Post within Europe: 3.07 euros becomes 3.36 euros
International post: 3.29 euros becomes 3.58 euros
Another important point to note: older stamps will remain valid next year as well.
Parcels to cost 4.5 per cent more on average
Sending parcels is therefore also set to become more expensive. To send a parcel from a post office using the ‘bpack 24h’ service – for parcels within Belgium that are usually delivered the next working day – you currently pay 8.60 euros. Bpost is raising this to 9 euros.
Prices for other domestic parcels are rising by an average of around 4.5 per cent, depending on the weight and type of parcel. According to Bpost, anyone wishing to send a parcel as cheaply as possible is advised to send it outside peak periods, create a shipping label online and have the parcel delivered to a collection point.
Surcharge during peak month
As in previous years, a €1 surcharge will be applied during the busy period between Black Friday and Christmas, as the number of parcels rises sharply at this time.
These price rises may not be the end of the story. According to Bpost, depending on inflation, prices could be increased by up to a further 3 per cent in the course of 2027.
