Charleroi air traffic control strike: 46 flights set to be cancelled
Published:
Controllers went on strike for the first time at 22.00 on Wednesday. They intend to do so every night, from 22.00 until 8.00, until 10 October.
There is also an impact outside these hours. If an outbound flight scheduled during the strike has to be cancelled, the return flight cannot take place either, and vice versa.
Around 40 flights were cancelled on Thursday. On Friday, nine departing and nine arriving flights were cancelled. A further 24 will be added to that total later today.
The reason for the action is a labour dispute with management over night-shift allowances. It is linked to negotiations between management and trade unions regarding support measures for the transition to the new digital control centre in Namur.
