For a year now Limburg IT firm Digital Hive has been developing applications for farmers. The results were presented to the press in the presence of the farm minister during a workshop organised by the local chambers of commerce.

“We need this kind of innovation from businesses to strengthen and revive our economy,” says Johann Leten, managing director of Voka – Chamber of Commerce Limburg.

“We want to showcase our applications, with a view to establishing collaborations with universities and other companies in the future,” explains Bart Jacobs of Digital Hive.

Drones and robots

Jacobs highlights how robots and AI can make farms more efficient and sustainable. “Take water hyacinth, for example – it’s a stubborn weed that is currently controlled by spraying. Our robot can pull it out of the ground by hand.”

Drones can also be a great help for farmers. “You can get a clear picture of your field. Drones can also help to achieve more targeted irrigation.”
