European Sleeper to launch night train to Copenhagen and Malmö in 2028

The Belgian-Dutch railway company European Sleeper has announced plans to launch a night train service from Brussels and Amsterdam to Copenhagen (Denmark) and Malmö (Sweden) from the spring of 2028. European Sleeper has entered into a strategic partnership with the German train operator RDC.  The launch of the new service is scheduled for April 2028. This will be European Sleeper’s first route to Scandinavia.

The railway company already operates several night train services to Germany (including Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden) and the Czech Republic (including Prague). Soon, from 9 September, a night train to Italy (Milan) via Switzerland will be added to the schedule.

At the same time, preparations are underway for a service between Brussels and Barcelona, in Catalonia. “Our network is growing rapidly; Scandinavia is a natural next step,” says European Sleeper’s Chris Engelsman.

For the journey to Scandinavia, European Sleeper is collaborating with RDC, which already supplies trainsets for the services between Paris and Berlin and to Milan. “We have a great deal of experience with night trains between Germany and Scandinavia,” emphasises Markus Hunkel of RDC. “We see potential in combining our operational experience with European Sleeper’s growing network and customer base.”

Details not yet known

Just one change and customers will be able to reach various other cities including Stockholm, Oslo and London.

Details regarding the timetable for Copenhagen and Malmö are not yet available; these are currently being negotiated. The plan is to depart at around 7 pm and arrive at the final destination at around 10 am the following morning. There are no details on fares either. As on other routes, customers will be able to choose between a cheaper seat in a shared compartment and a more expensive sleeping berth in a private compartment.
