Footage published on TikTok shows a commuter climbing out of a moving train through a window near Diest station in Flemish Brabant. It is unclear when the video was filmed. Train operator NMBS has condemned the stunt.
The video shows the man clambering out of the train through a sliding window just after the train leaves Diest station. “Missed the stop? No problem!” the caption reads.
According to spokesperson Britt Monten, NMBS has not yet been officially informed of the facts. “It is now up to the relevant safety authorities and the police to follow up on this incident,” she says. “Offences of this kind are punishable by fines of up to €500, or even criminal prosecution.”
The company is taking the incident very seriously. “The man created an extremely dangerous situation, and not just for himself,” says Monten.
She adds that there was no fault with the sliding window, so it is unclear how the man managed to climb out. “The windows on our trains comply with current safety standards,” she says. “The problem clearly lies not with the infrastructure, but with this man’s reckless behaviour.”
