Train punctuality reaches 5-year high
Published:
The punctuality rate indicates how often trains arrive on schedule – meaning with less than six minutes’ delay – in Brussels or at their final destination. Last year, the figure for July was 93.4%.
Almost 40% of delays in July were the fault of NMBS, with 27% caused by third parties such as people on the tracks or accidents at crossings and 16% the fault of network manager Infrabel.
Around 3,100 trains were partially or completely cancelled in July, representing almost 3% of all trains. Including these cancellations puts the total punctuality rate at 92.3%, higher than last year’s figure of 90.9%.
