Today is the hottest day of the week and the Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) has issued an orange heat warning. The warning applies across the country, apart from in West and East Flanders.
The day started off very hot and sunny. Inland, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 36°. It will remain cooler by the coast, with temperatures around 24 or 25°. Thunderstorms may develop in the east and south in the afternoon.
The KMI’s code orange warning advises people take certain measures to stay healthy:
drink regularly
dress more lightly
spend the day in cooler rooms
monitor your health regularly
eat easily digestible food in smaller portions
keep doors and windows closed to keep the heat out
Rain and thunderstorms may develop in places on Monday night. On Tuesday, it will remain warm and unsettled, with maximum temperatures of 25 to 30°. There will be variable cloud cover with rain or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon. The coast is likely to be largely spared.
It will gradually become cooler later in the week, with lots of sunshine but also a chance of a few showers.
