Extra police checks at Bredene nudist beach as more people are “up for an adventure”

The police are to carry out extra checks in the vicinity of the nudist beach in the family-friendly seaside resort of Bredene (West Flanders). Since the start of this year, 46 police reports have already been filed about inappropriate behaviour on and around the beach. Offences include sexual acts, indecent behaviour in public and inappropriate behaviour.

As the police in Bredene and neighbouring De Haan (West Flanders) put it, people are increasingly "up for adventure" on and around the nudist beach. “We are seeing a clear increase compared with last year,” says police spokesperson Andy Boey.

The Spaniard Dune, which runs alongside the nudist beach, appears to be a popular destination for offenders. “The Spanjaardduin is a demarcated area where access is prohibited. Offences and sexual acts are being detected there with increasing frequency!”

The police have had enough. “Over the coming weeks, we will be carrying out unannounced checks – during the day, in the evening and at night. We hope this will significantly reduce the number of offences. Please respect the signage and the cordoned-off areas and restrict nude recreation to the official nudist beach.”

The rules are clearly signposted.
