The identification process for two of the victims took slightly longer but has now been completed. They are two female residents aged 72 and 78.

It had previously been announced that an 80-year-old woman had died, as had a 93-year-old resident and her 54-year-old daughter, who was visiting.

“Mother and daughter visiting grandmother to show school report”

One of the fatalities is an 80-year-old woman: A resident on the fifth floor. VRT News spoke briefly with her son yesterday.  He had spent the whole morning trying to ring his mother and received the bad news later that day.

Another victim is a 93-year-old resident and her 54-year-old daughter, who was visiting with her own daughter – the granddaughter – to show her school report.

They are said to have tried to flee. The mother and granddaughter then realised that the grandmother wasn’t with them. The daughter is thought to have gone back inside, and both of them were then trapped by the smoke.’
