Fifteen people have been arrested as part of an investigation into a drug gang in the course of a large-scale police operation in the Brussels boroughs of Anderlecht, Sint-Gillis and Vorst. The police also seized a large amount of cash, drugs and weapons.
In the course of raids on 18 properties, the police seized, 30,000 euros in cash, 25.5 kg of drugs, 5 handguns, 3 airsoft guns and a set of knuckle dusters, amongst other things. Several vehicles, luxury watches, around 50 mobile phones, computers and tablets were also seized. By chance, during this operation the police also found evidence of money laundering. A separate investigation will now be mounted into these offences.
“This operation forms part of a wider strategy to tackle drug trafficking and drug-related violence,” the public prosecutor’s office explained. “Conflicts between criminal networks lead to shootings, explosions, and other acts of violence in the city. This puts citizens at risk and reduces the quality of life in the capital.”
"Disorganising" the gangs
“By targeting their leaders, financial resources, logistical means and networks we aim to disorganise the gangs over time. Together with all our partners, we remain committed to keeping our capital safe” prosecutors say.
