Revamped bike-share network in Vlaamse Rand now up and running

The revamped bike-share network ‘nextbike Vlaamse Rand 2.0 ’ is now up and running. In the Vlaamse Rand, the Flemish municipalities around Brussels, you can now find share-bike stations at 68 locations, allowing you, for example, to cycle home from the station or a bus stop. Combining share-bikes with public transport provides an alternative to driving in the Vlaamse Rand, the Flemish borderlands around the Brussels conurbation.

‘We launched a share-bike network in the Vlaamse Rand in 2025,’ says Joeri de Visser of nextbike Belgium. “We started with 30 stations where share-bikes are available. The opening of new stations in Grimbergen, Vilvoorde, Halle and Zaventem and many others means the total now stands at 68. That’s a massive expansion. We want to be able to offer sustainable mobility to everyone.”

The bike-share network is mainly linked to Hoppin points, locations where different modes of transport converge including trains and buses.

‘The share-bikes can easily be hired via an app on your mobile phone. You can use the bike to cycle from the station or bus stop to work, or you can use it to run errands. At the end of the day, the bike must be returned to one of the 68 stations.’

Great news now fuel is so expensive

‘This is the ideal alternative to the car,’ says de Visser. ‘Especially in the Brussels region, where public transport doesn’t always take you exactly where you need to be. That’s when a bike combined with public transport is a good thing. It gives you speed and flexibility. Especially now that fuel is so expensive, we think we can reach a lot of people with our share-bike scheme.’
