Filip, King of Belgians, visited one of Belgium’s overcrowded prisons on Tuesday. The King was given a guided tour of the prison in Antwerp’s Begijnenstraat, one of two penitentiaries in the northern metropolis.

Antwerp provincial governor Cathy Berx was on hand to welcome the head of state and the king was given a guided tour of the prison by prison director An Janssens.
The monarch discussed prison overcrowding with several prison heads present. He also spoke with inmates and was cheered – in French – while he strolled onto the prison courtyard.
