Anderlecht warehouse blaze death toll rises to 4

‘Following the fire, four people were reported missing. The first two victims were found quickly. The other two were found following thorough searches by the emergency services over the past few days,’ the public prosecutor’s office said.

The public prosecutor’s office emphasises that identifying the victims is particularly difficult due to the complex circumstances. Identification is still ongoing for all four victims.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is also still in full swing.

Father and son killed

Of the two fatalities found shortly after the fire, it is known that they were a father and son, both fishmongers, who had rented part of the warehouse for storage.

The fire broke out on Saturday morning in a warehouse situated between the Maurice Herbettelaan and the Jakob Smitsstraat. The building was used by various tenants. Building materials and electric scooters were among the items stored there. The intense fire completely gutted the warehouse.
