Ghent is making its presence felt in the tech world, rising to 4th place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of technology companies per capita, according to a new international ranking.
New ranking puts Ghent in top 4 of Europe’s tech cities
Ghent scores highly in the annual report on technology cities, compiled by Dealroom. The city’s rise to 4th in Europe and 10th in the world relative to population size is an increase of one and nine places respectively from the previous ranking.
In Europe, only Cambridge, London and Stockholm outperform Ghent in this ranking. Ghent ranks above New York in 11th, Munich in 19th and Amsterdam in 20th. “This is an incredible achievement and something to be incredibly proud of,” says city councillor Sofie Bracke of Voor Gent.
The technology sector in the city comprises four major sectors, of which digitech is the best known to the public. A wealth of talent and innovation is concentrated in a small area, which strengthens the informal exchange of knowledge and ideas.
