The Met Gala, the most prestigious fashion event of the year for celebrities, has come and gone, and this year it’s mainly Rihanna (with a Belgian—or rather, Flemish—look) who is the talk of the town.
The Met Gala is an annual, prestigious event hosted by the fashion department of “The Met,” the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Its main purpose is to raise funds for this fashion department.
It’s a question that keeps fashion enthusiasts guessing every year, as fashion magazine Vogue puts it: will Rihanna attend the Met Gala this year? This year she was there, though she was—as always—“fashionably late”.
She wore a custom-made creation by Maison Margiela designed by Glenn Martens, a Bruges-born Flemish designer. The draped silhouette is inspired by Flemish medieval architecture, according to Vogue.
The dress’s corset was adorned with more than 115,000 crystal beads, antique jewels, and chains, which, according to Vogue, required 1,380 hours of embroidery.
