On 28 June, US Ambassador Bill White is organising a big event to celebrate the United States gaining its independence from Britain 250 years ago. White intends to mark the occasion in style also in Brussels.

The ambassador has planned fireworks, flypasts by fighter jets and has even invited Filip, King of Belgians, the Belgian head of state. White also revealed which well-known American musician will be coming to Brussels especially for the occasion.

73-year-old disco and funk legend Nile Rodgers, who made his breakthrough in the 1970s with his band Chic and the song Le Freak will enthral the Brussels crowds. Other hits to his name include Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love and Good Times.

Rodgers also worked as a producer with David Bowie, the band Duran Duran and singer Madonna. In the 1990s, music magazine Billboard honoured him as one of the world’s greatest music producers.

White also told French news agency AFP that Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever (Flemish nationalist N-VA) will be attending the semiquincentennial celebrations and will give a speech.
