Strike at Bpost continues, fresh talks between unions and management under way

Strike action at partly-privatised Bpost has been ongoing since the end of March. There is great concern about the company’s plans to modify working hours in order better to respond to the new realities of the parcel market.

Strike action continues says Bpost spokesperson Mathieu Goedefroy: “All Brussels distribution centres are still blocked this morning by strikers who are ensuring that no post or parcels can be delivered by postal workers in Brussels. This has been the case since last Tuesday.”

In Flanders, the worst disruption is concentrated in Limburg

In Brussels, striking workers are still blocking all distribution centres. This means no parcels or letters can be delivered.

In Flanders, 93 per cent of post and parcel rounds are continuing as normal. Strike action is being undertaken in Ternat and Keerbergen (Flemish Brabant). In Aarschot, however, all postal workers are back at work.

In Limburg, of all Flemish provinces, the impact is greatest, with strike action in Genk, Hasselt, Zonhoven, Lommel, Dilsen, Lummen, Beringen, Houthalen and Tessenderlo.

In Wallonia, 64 per cent of deliveries are going ahead.

New talks under way

On Monday, trade unions and management met for new consultations. Management of the company in which the Belgian government has a majority stake put forward a new proposal. The trade unions are currently putting this proposal to their members.

Trade unions and management are due to meet again today and tomorrow.
