Bpost management and Belgian trade unions will resume negotiations on the company’s transformation plan today. The trade unions have now been taking strike against the plan for over three weeks. Disruption is particularly severe in Wallonia. Following several attempts, all parties will try again to reach an agreement this afternoon.
Talks planned to end ongoing postal strike, unions deny Bpost claim strike is over
Bpost is Belgium's partially privatised postal service in which the Belgian government holds a majority stake.
Bpost management is meeting the trade unions and social mediators to discuss an agreement on the transformation plan. Bpost wants to place greater emphasis on parcels and have postal workers start work later in the day.
The way in which this plan is being implemented is not to the staff’s liking. That is why they have been on strike for over three weeks. The willingness to strike is particularly high in Wallonia.
Extensive negotiations have been held over the past few weeks to resolve the industrial dispute, but without much success. Last week, management claimed that an agreement had been reached, but the trade unions say this was not the case.
