The mayor of the Brussels borough of Sint-Gillis, Jean Spinette (PS), is seeking the assistance of Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin (Francophone liberal MR). Last night, yet another explosion occurred at a property on the Bosniëstraat in the borough. Ten cars were damaged in the incident. According to the mayor, this is drug-related violence between dealers. “And this must stop immediately to ensure the safety of our residents,” he says.
Explosion and gunfire at same Brussels property: mayor seeks help from Interior Minister
Last night at 2.20 am, the Brussels fire brigade received a call regarding an explosion at a house on the Bosniëstraat. Earlier in the week, shots had been fired at the same property.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known, the police say. The public prosecutor’s office has been informed and has launched an investigation. According to Mayor Jean Spinette, the incident is part of a drug turf war between rival families. “This is already the sixth incident at that house. In my opinion, it is an act of retaliation. A battle between dealers in which they intimidate each other with acts of revenge.”
Mayor Spinette is requesting help from Interior Minister Bernard Quintin: "I’m going to try to get hold of him today so that we can secure additional support. This is a well-known problem: families waging a drug turf war in our neighbourhoods. We cannot tolerate it. It has to change, but that will require legal support.”
