Minimum wage rises on 1 April

The minimum wage is going up by €35.70 before tax from 1 April. The increase was agreed in 2021, but only now kicks in. As a result of the increase, guaranteed average minimum income rises to €2,189.81 per month before tax.

The minimum wage applies to all employees aged 18 and over. It is binding and covers to all sectors. This means that no employee, in any sector or company in Belgium, may be paid less. Sectors are, however, permitted to agree on higher minimum wages, and they often do so.

According to the Christian trade union, around 100,000 workers in Belgium are on the minimum wage.
