A walker discovered the body of what is believed to be a diver on Westende Beach (Middelkerke – West Flanders) this morning. It is not yet clear who the victim, a man, is; the body was wearing wet suit pants.
Local Middelkerke police have confirmed that a body was found on Westende Beach at 8.25 am. A walker spotted the body in wet suit pants.
The victim is male. However, according to the police, it is unlikely to be a transmigrant. The fire service recovered the body. The West Flemish public prosecutor’s office is investigating the victim’s identity. A police physician and forensic scientists attended the scene.
Middelkerke burgomaster Jean-Marie Dedecker says police believe the victim is a diver: "Several weeks ago two divers drowned in France. Their bodies have not yet been recovered. It may be one of these divers, but could also be a surfer that got into difficulty".
