The Christian trade union ACV has issued a strike notice for staff that work for the Brussels regional refuse collection agency Net Brussel. The notice provides for a 3-day strike from today (Wednesday 18 March) until Friday 20 March. While waste not destined to be recycled (white bin liners) will be collected by staff that are not on strike, paper and cardboard (yellow bin liners) and plastic and metal (blue bin liners) will not be collected during the next 3 days.
Net Brussel says that teams have been mobilised to ensure the continuity of services as much as possible. In a statement the regional refuse collection agency says that “We will take all measures necessary to limit the impact of the action on the public”.
Residents of the Brussels-Capital Region are advised to only put out white, orange and green bin bags this week. Blue and yellow bin liners must not be put out for collection. Net Brussel says that if yellow and blue bin liners are put out they will remain on the pavement until next week.
The strike affects the whole of the Brussels-Capital Region. In addition to domestic refuse collection service, commercial customers and Net Brussel’s recycling centres where residents of the Brussels-Capital Region can take their bulky waste will also be impacted by the strike.
Net Brussel says that that its management hopes to continue dialogue with trade union representatives “in a constructive and transparent manner”.
