The footage shows a burning object in the porch of the synagogue, a masked man walking away from the building, followed by a powerful explosion. The video appears to originate from a jihadist organisation.

The federal public prosecutor's office says the video is currently being analysed to determine whether the images are genuine and where the video originated. The public prosecutor's office is calling for the video not to be distributed and for no premature conclusions to be drawn until more clarity is available.

The synagogue, located on rue Léon Frédéricq in Liège, was hit by an explosion caused by a homemade explosive device on Sunday night. The explosion damaged the door and windows on the front façade. No one was injured.

The federal public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation ‘in view of possible indications of a terrorist offence’. Interior minister Quintin called the explosion ‘a horrific anti-Semitic act that was directly targeting Belgium's Jewish community’. The public prosecutor's office has not disclosed whether any suspects have been arrested.
