The unions that represent staff at the Flemish public transport company De Lijn are to stage 1-day strikes in each of Flanders’ 5 provinces on separate days next week. During each of the 5 provincial strikes De Lijn will operate a reduced “alternative timetable” using drivers that have chosen not to strike.
West Flanders will be first province to be impacted by the strike. Bus drivers and coastal tram drivers there will down tools on Monday 16 March. On Tuesday De Lijn’s drivers in Antwerp Province will strike, followed on Wednesday by drivers in Flemish Brabant and Brussels. The week of industrial action will come to a close with a 1-day strike by bus and tram drivers in East Flanders.
The alternative timetable will be published at least 24 hours in advance in De Lijn’s route planner.
The unions are protesting against planned cuts at the Flemish public transport company.
