‘Cyprus is an EU Member State. It is only logical that Cyprus receives support from other Member States when Hezbollah fires drones and other weapons at Cyprus,’ he said. Belgium and many other countries view the Lebanese organisation as a terrorist outfit.
The Gulf States have not yet responded to Iran's attacks on their territory, but if they do, this too could have implications for European countries, including Belgium.
‘As far as we are concerned, we must remain vigilant if the Gulf states ask for support from European countries in the coming days,’ says Belgian foreign minister Maxime Prévot (Francophone centrist Les Engagés). However, he was keen to refer to Theo Francken, his colleague at the defence ministry, for further comment.
