There will be another strike on the country’s railway next month. The socialist rail union ACOD Spoor has announced that the strike will take place on Monday 9, Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 March.
The strike notice concerns all employees of Belgian Railways and its subsidiaries. It applies to the entire network and all NMBS, Infrabel and HR Rail depots, stations and offices.
At the end of last month rail workers took five days of strike action. Since January there has been more than 30 days of strike action on the country’s railways.
Amongst other things the unions are protesting, against the government's plans to end a system whereby rail staff are appointed as civil servants rather than as white collar or blue-collar staff. They are also unhappy with measures put forward by the government that will affect rail workers’ pension rights.
The unions that represent both private and public sector employees plan a national demonstration against the Federal Government’s socio-economic polices in Brussels on 12 March.
