US Ambassador says “there’s no need to apologise”

The US Ambassador to Belgium Bill White did not appear to be put out by the fact that he has been summoned by the Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot (Francophone centrist). Speaking after a meeting with highest-ranking official in the Belgian Diplomatic Service Theodora Gentzis, Ambassador White said “I don't feel like I've been summoned. We had a pleasant meeting. Theodora is a true professional”

Mr White added that said Ms Gentzis had explained Belgium’s position and “I have most certainly explained our position and that of President Trump and of our country.

“There is no need for an apology”. He denies that he has insulted Belgium. “Around 4 years ago I discovered that I am half Jewish. I have so many fantastic friends here in Belgium. Belgium is not antisemitic”.

However, Mr White then went on to decry what he says is a rise in antisemitic activity in Belgium.

The US Ambassador believes that it is only natural that he should defend the of the three Jewish circumcisers. “One of the fine mohels (Jewish circumcisers, ed.) was born in America, and I am the US ambassador to Belgium. It is my duty to defend religious freedom.”
