The Federal Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke (Flemish socialist) has accused the US government of waging an “ideological attack on our European social model, including our healthcare”. Mr Vazndenbroucke made his comments on Tuesday during a press conference in Paris. He was resonding to earlier comments made by the US Ambassador Bill White.

Mr Vandebroucke acknowledges that more on research and development in the US. However, the Belgian Health Minister says that this is mainly because private intermediaries are reaping high margins. He added that the European Union must take a stronger stance against the US, for example, if President Trump announces new import tariffs against the EU or an individual EU member states.
"The European Union is a protective shield against bilateral intimidation. We should make this much clearer to our citizens."
The remarks come a day after Ambassador White criticised Mr Vandenbroucke and accused Belgium of antisemitism over the prosecution of three Jewish ritual circumcisers in Antwerp.
