A total of five babies in Belgium have been infected with the toxin cereulide after consuming a milk or milk or milk powder product produced by the multinational food company Nestlé. The Flemish Health and Care Agency tested the stool of babies that had become ill after consuming Nestlé products. Of the samples tested, 5 showed traces of cereulide infection. In all 5 cases the symptoms were only mild.
In a statement the Flemish Health and Care Agency said that “As with the previous cases that came to light, the babies were a few months old and had consumed a Nestlé milk product from batches that had been recalled group shortly before the symptoms appeared”.
The Agency stresses that the recommendations it issued to parents remain unchanged. It is still important to carefully check whether the products at home they have at home are among those that have been recalled. If this is the case, the products should not be used under any circumstances.
