Minister says that Bedex defence exhibition is a “huge opportunity” for Belgium’s defence industry
The Brussels European Defense Exhibition and Conference (Bedex) will take place from From 12-14 March. It aims to bring together both defence professionals and those with a broader interest in matters related to defence. While the first 2 days of the event will be reserved for professionals, day 3 will be open to the general public. 150 will be taking part, including 50 from Belgium. All the stands at the exhibition are already fully booked.
Speaking at a press conference following a presentation announcing the event, the Belgian Defence Minister described the launch of Bedex as timely, coming as it does against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions. He added that Brussels "the capital of Belgium, Europe and NATO" should host a platform where companies, governments and armed forces can meet and potentially conclude agreements.
The NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has already confirmed that he will attend. Invitations have been sent to EU leaders and Western Defence ministers. The Chief-of-Staff of the Belgian armed forces Frederik Vansina has invited his international counterparts to Bedex. The Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever (Flemish nationalist) will also attend and other federal government ministers have also been invited.
The organisers of Bedex hope to make it an annual event.
