Different gangs are believed to have been involved in the incident, but what went before or what exactly led to these horrific events is still unclear.

Two minors have now been arrested for their involvement. A 16-year-old boy from Dendermonde (East Flanders) appeared before a youth judge yesterday afternoon. He has been placed in the Everberg youth detention centre. Another teenager (14) from Halle-Vilvoorde (Flemish Brabant) turned himself in to the police yesterday evening. Other minors may also be involved.

As the incident took place in Brussels, the investigation is being conducted by prosecutors there.

The victim was seriously injured but is now out of danger. The mayor of Anderlecht and the chief of police visited the family this afternoon.
