In Heverlee, near Leuven, an exceptional property is now for sale: the only Art Nouveau villa in the Leuven area. Villa Les Tilleuls is a listed monument dating from 1906, with special wooden elements, stained-glass windows and a park garden. The asking price is 1.9 million euros.
‘This is very unique. The house has the typical details of the Art Nouveau. It has special woodwork, stained glass, a monumental staircase, authentic tiles and a park garden,’ says estate agent Ellen Bollaerts of the Teherbestemmen estate agency.
Renovation work a must
The property was designed in the early 20th century by architect Augustin van Arenberg, following a commission from Marie-Louise Elisabeth de Joncker. ‘In recent years, it has had various different owners. As a result, little maintenance has been carried out. We are looking for a new owner who is willing to carry out careful renovation work, as the building is listed.’
There are several possibilities for repurposing the villa, says Bollaerts. ‘You could turn it into a family home, a B&B or short-stay accommodation for artists or expats. A commercial property combined with residential units is also possible. However, you are not allowed to turn it into student accommodation.’
The villa covers an area of 860 m² and includes small salons and large reception rooms. The asking price is 1.9 million euros. ‘For the right buyer who has a passion for heritage and a vision for repurposing, this is a unique opportunity.’
