The Northen Lights visiable in the skies above Flanders

In various parts of our region the Northern Lights were visible in the sky on Monday night. The northern lights that are also known as the aurora borealis, are normally only visible much further north. However, increasing solar activity means that they now sometimes appear farther south and that they occur more frequently.

Published:

Auroras occur when charged particles from the sun collide with gases in Earth's upper atmosphere.

Flandersnews.be has selected a series of photographs of the Northern Lights that were sent to VRT News by people across Flanders.
