Slippery conditions Thursday morning followed by storm Goretti, Sabine warns

‘Thursday morning, we expect light rain first on the French border, later spreading elsewhere.  The rain could turn to sleet, even snow in the woodlands of the Ardennes. This could make the roads slippery and dangerous,’ says VRT weather lady Sabine Hagedoren (pictured).

‘During the course of the day, a storm depression, Storm Goretti, will develop and cross the Netherlands towards Germany. Belgium too will also be affected by strong winds. On Thursday night and Friday, this will bring heavy rain and strong winds, with gusts of up to 80 or 90 kilometres per hour.’

Goretti on the way!

Later in the afternoon and evening of Thursday, a new, much more active weather zone will reach Belgium, the Met Office warns. This will bring intense rain at times, which for a while may also fall as snow in the Ardennes. Towards evening, temperatures will range between 0 degrees in the High Fens and 5 degrees on the coast. During the evening and night, temperatures will rise further.

During Thursday night, periods of heavier rain may occur. The wind will increase significantly and will become strong inland with possibly stormy conditions on the coast for a while. Expect gusts of between 70 and 90 kilometres per hour.

Friday will be heavily overcast with persistent rain, which may be quite intense in places. In the afternoon, there may be some localised snowfall in Flanders once again. This precipitation will continue during Friday night. Maximum temperatures will be around 0 degrees in the High Fens, 3 degrees in central parts and 5 degrees on the coast. Expect fairly strong winds Saturday morning with gusts of up to 80 to 90 kilometres per hour.
