In East Flanders, Antwerp, Hainaut, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant, a code amber weather warning for slippery conditions remains in force until this afternoon. The Met Office has decided to scale up its warning in these provinces due to new snow showers currently sweeping across the country. In other provinces, code yellow remains in force until this afternoon.
Beware of slippery roads: Met Office upgrades weather warning to amber till this afternoon
Throughout the morning, the Met Office sees slippery conditions, either due to freezing meltwater or snow residue, or due to a few new snow showers, in affected provinces.
The warning remains in force until 12 noon today. In the other provinces in the country, a code yellow warning for slippery conditions remains in force until this afternoon.
Freezing meltwater and snow residue can also create dangerous situations, including on footpaths and cycle paths. In some places, there is also a risk of freezing fog. So be careful.
Gritters are back on the roads in many places in Flanders. Farmers and horticulturalists are also helping to clear snow and ice from cycle paths, streets, car parks and airports.
Since New Year's Day, some 500 farmers and horticulturalists have already carried out more than 3,000 assignments. And they will remain on standby in the coming days, says Tessa De Prins of the Farmers Union.
What is the forecast?
Today, expect widespread clear skies across most of the country. There may be some additional snowfall in the Ardennes, but it will also clear up in these parts during the course of the day.
Maximum temperatures range from -3 degrees in the High Fens, 0 or +1 degrees in central parts and +3 degrees on the coast. The wind will be light inland and moderate on the coast.
Tonight and tomorrow night, cloud cover will increase from the west and there may be some light snowfall here and there. Freezing fog may also form in the Ardennes. Towards the end of the night, the snowfall is likely to become heavier. So expect slippery roads again tonight and tomorrow morning.
