Snow showers are expected again today and caution is advised due to frost and ice on the roads. The Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a code yellow warning for slippery conditions. This is especially a warning for anyone who has to return to work after the Christmas holidays.
Beware of slippery conditions this morning, snow showers expected again on Monday
Last night was freezing, with temperatures dropping to -13 degrees Celsius in the Ardennes, so beware of frost and ice patches (and the associated risk of skidding) this morning.
The Met Office has issued a code yellow warning for slippery conditions throughout the country. It remains in place until 12 noon today. ‘Conditions will be slippery in places due to the formation of frost and ice patches caused by the freezing of meltwater.’
This morning will be heavily overcast across the country, with wintery showers moving from north to south. ‘The snow layer may thicken further,’ says VRT weather forecaster Sabine Hagedoren.
The gritting services will once again be out on the motorways, regional roads and cycle paths, according to the Roads and Traffic Agency.
In the afternoon, clear spells may occur, starting from the coast. At the end of the day and in the evening, new showers of snow and sleet will reach the north-west of the country. There is a chance of thunder on the coast.
Maximum temperatures will range from -3 degrees Celsius in the High Fens to +3 degrees on the coast. In central parts, expect highs around freezing. On the coast, there will be moderate wind from the west-northwest, increasing to fairly strong and veering northwest later.
