From Friday afternoon there will snow shows at some locations in Flanders, such as in the photograph above that was taken at Mol in Antwerp Province. The chance of snow will increase on Saturday and it could stick in some places in our region.
Snow in some place in Flanders on Friday evening ‘several centimeters possible at the weekend’ sats VRT’s weatherman
“Are we finally get some proper snow?” Is a question that is currently on many people’s lips. The answer is that there’s pretty good chance of it during the forthcoming weekend. The VRT’s weatherman Bram Verbruggen told VRT News that “This morning, there was already some sleet here and there. A few snow showers are already a possibility, especially along the border with France and the Netherlands. Elsewhere, it should remain dry during the afternoon, with some nice sunny spells.”
In the late afternoon, a front bringing wintery showers will reach our region from the Netherlands. There will be rain and above all sleet. “However, during the most intense of the showers, there may also be snow that will stick on the ground.”
The lion’s share of the wintery showers are expected in central and eastern areas of the country. Meanwhile, it will remain drier in West and East Flanders. As the day progresses, the showers will become increasingly wintry in nature.
Towards the evening, the showers will be mainly of snow and there could be as much as several centimeters in northern areas of East Flanders and parts of Antwerp Province, Flemish Brabant and Limburg Province. Further showers of sleet or snow cover are also during the night.
Gritters
The Flemish Highways and Traffic Agency the situation on the region’s roads and cycle paths will be monitored closely and gritting teams will be out to treat the roads as soon as possible after any sdnow has fallen.
More snow at the weekend
Bram Verbruggen says that we can expect more sleet and snow over the weekend and that the chance that the snow will stick will increase as the weekend progresses. However, our weatherman is keen to stress that the showers will be localised and there will be a covering of snow here and there, but certainly not everywhere.
On Saturday a Code Yellow warning for slippery conditions will be in force.
Sunday will be mainly dry, except for a few snow showers in the Ardennes. On Sunday morning, it will gradually become dry and sunny everywhere with the last of the wintery showers leaving the east of the country in the course of the morning.
The chance of snowfall will increase again early next week.
