Body of man missing for more than 2 months found at West Flemish beauty spot

A 37-year-old man from the West Flemish municipality of Kortemark that had been missing for 2 months has been found dead at a local beauty spot. The man’s body was found together with that of his dog in a pond at the Krekemeersen nature reserve in Kortemark.

The dead man had last been seen on 26 October when he left his home on the Jan Mioenstraat with his dog. His family reported his disappearance to the police and several search operations were mounted. However, these proved fruitless. As the police had no clues as to the man’s whereabouts and no indication of foul play, they issued an all points bulletin in an effort to find him at the beginning of November.

Last weekend police received reports of a man’s body having been spotted on the Ieperstraat in Kortemark. The body turned out to be that of the 37-year-old local man that had been missing since late October.

No signs of violence have been found on the dead man’s body. The public prosecutor’s office says that an autopsy will be carried out today (Tuesday 30 December) to determine the cause of death.
