During the Christmas holidays and in January students in Ghent who like to study in company can once again book a spot at 50 study locations throughout the city. A notable newcomer this year is a karaoke bar, where students can sing during their break. Once again, the Fine Arts Museum MSK is also participating as is the Old Courthouse.
Many students increasingly prefer to study in company, and Ghent is no exception. For years, more and more public buildings, businesses and even museums have been opening their doors to them during cramming periods. ‘This year, Ghent has 50 study locations, with no fewer than 4,000 places available,’ says alderwoman Evita Willaert.
A song helps to relax
More and more surprising locations are being added. This swot season, the most striking location is possibly the Singcity karaoke bar. Around 10 students will be able to go there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s not to be missed, especially for the karaoke break. A free 15-minute singing session should help the students relax before they get back to work.
Students who like to study in company but are looking for a quieter place can visit the MSK. The museum is once again opening its doors to students, who can study immunology, logic, English lit or cardiology among the works of art.
Also joining in: the Old Courthouse. There, 12 students will be welcomed in the former courtroom of the Court of Appeal.
Internet, power socket, coffee and tea
All locations offer a study space, internet and a power socket. Water and even coffee and tea are often available too.
The other 48 locations can be found on the City of Ghent website . In future, this website may be replaced by one designed by Ghent students themselves. The aim is to make it even easier for new locations to sign up.
Students need to book a space in good time, because the popular study locations are often fully booked straight away!
