Data breach at Bpost: corporate and consumer data leaked

Due to a ‘cyber incident’ at Belgian postal services provider Bpost, data from an unknown number of companies and consumers has been leaked. Bpost confirmed the news following reports on the technology website Tweakers, which had found the data on a ransomware website.

Bpost has not disclosed which of its departments is affected, but according to the company, the leak is unrelated to the processing of letters and parcels. The department works with an exchange platform managed by a supplier, it says.

‘Immediate measures have been taken to contain the data breach and our security teams have implemented corrective processes to prevent further impact,’ the group said in a statement. ‘Our daily operations are not affected in any way.’

Bpost says that an investigation is ongoing and that the authorities have been informed. Affected customers will be ‘informed in a timely manner,’ according to the postal group.
