The Mons (Hainaut) Indictment Chamber has opened a new line of investigation into the as yet resolved case of the Brabant Killers. The Brabant Killers (a.k.a. the Nivelles Gang). The Francophone public broadcaster RTBF says that the Indictment Chamber has requested that the body of the mother of the French gangsters Xavier and Thierry Silman be exhumed in order for a DNA sample to be taken. This sample will be compared with samples already taken by detective working on the case.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has not confirmed that a request has been made for the body to be exhumed. However, the Francophone public broadcaster RTBF says that the Mons Indictment Chamber has ordered that the body of the mother of the French gangsters Xavier and Thierry Silman be exhumed to enable a DNA test to be carried out. Once taken, the DNA sample will be compared with samples already taken during the course of the investigation.
The Mons Indictment Chamber has accepted in part 3 of a total of 7 requests to examine new lines of investigation. A press statement read that "Given the current state of the investigation no further information will be given".
During an information meeting in June 2024, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office announce that after almost 40 years the Examining Magistrate had closed the investigation as useful lines of investigation remained open. However, the opportunity still remained for civil parties on the case to request that the Chamber of Indictment open new lines of investigation.
Several of the civil parties did so and in January this year the Mons Indictment Chamber order that statements given by two boys from Opwijk (Flemish Brabant) in 1985 should be reexamined. The boys had given detectives the registration numbers of two suspicious cars that they had jotted done.
In April 2025 the Chamber of Indictment order that a new line of investigation, this time into the Silman brothers, be opened. The brothers Xavier and Thierry Sliman and their gang carried out a series of violent robberies in Northern France at around the same time that the Brabant Killers carried out their series of violent robberies. A retired police office that has investigated their case says that there are several elements that indicate that the Silman brother were possibly involved with the Brabant killers. This is now being investigated.
