Brussels’s Christmas tram gets passengers into the festive spirit

The Brussels local transport company MIVB and its Christmas tram are getting passengers into the Christmas spirit. The decorated tram will be making its way around the city during the festive season, with Father Christmas occasionally joining in the fun.

The Christmas tram runs in Brussels from today. ‘The tram has Christmas lights and is decorated in red and green. Announcements of the next stop are being replaced by a Christmas choir,’ explains the MIVB’s Laurent Vermeersch.

‘We have been doing this for several years now and we have noticed that it elicits positive reactions. People enjoy riding the Christmas tram. It breaks the routine. Many people take the tram every day and when it is decorated, it creates a special atmosphere.’

From 1 December to 4 January, the Christmas tram will run on five MIVB lines: lines 9, 18, 19, 82 and 92. On 17 and 20 December, Father Christmas will be on board, handing out sweets.

On 11 December, a pop-up store opens in the Rogier metro station. Here you can buy original gifts and toys including model trams and buses and items made from recycled STIB materials.
