The trade unions’ 3 days of strike action weakens Brussels' position as an economic centre, Brussels business organisation Voka Metropolitan says. Although working from home in the service sector mitigates some of the disruption, the industrial action is leading to a loss of income for the local economy, the organisation argues.

Repeated industrial action on public transport and at Brussels Airport is jeopardising investment in the capital, Voka Metropolitan notes. The organisation emphasises that the MIVB, the Brussels local transport company and the largest item of expenditure in the Brussels budget, is now in its tenth day of industrial action this year.
‘These actions undermine the role of our capital as a meeting place and economic hub,’ says René Konings, director of Voka Metropolitan. ‘It is ironic that this is happening at a time when Brussels is already under severe pressure due to the lack of a new Brussels government, while the actions themselves have nothing to do with the political deadlock at the Brussels level.’
