The US President Donald Trump appointed the businessman Bill White as the new United States' ambassador to Belgium in December 2024. Following Senate approval and a swearing-in ceremony at the US State Department, Mr White arrived in Belgium on 6 November. On Thursday, he presented his credentials to King Filip at the Royal Palace and the US Embassy in Brussels officially announced his appointment.

In a press statement, Bill White said that it was a great honour to represent the Trump Administration in Belgium. “I look forward to working closely with our Belgian friends to promote peace and security in Europe and further strengthen our economic ties that create prosperity for Americans and Belgians alike.”

The news website Politico says that Bill White was a major donor to Trump's election campaign. Despite this, in the past, Mr White supported the Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

In 2012 the openly gay Mr White, publicly withdrew his support for the Republican Mitt Romney, describing him as “on the wrong side of history”, due to his stance on same-sex marriage.
