Police in Antwerp arrested seven people on Monday evening after a pro-Palestinian demonstration got out of hand. It was the second Monday running that trouble flared during the Antwerp Coalition for Palestine's weekly demonstration against the situation in Gaza.
Last week, police used water cannon and tear gas against demonstrators after they staged a protest where they were not authorised to do so. This Monday too water cannon were used against the protesters.
Although the vast majority of those at Monday evening’s demonstration complied with the ban on protests near to Antwerp City Hall, several dozen activists sought confrontation with the police. 7 people were arrested.
The Antwerp police were well prepared for any trouble and were present in numbers during the demonstration.
